A Theme options page is made to give you control over WordPress website’s functionality. This article is about the ElegantThemes’ theme options (ePanel) that comes built-in with all Elegant Themes‘ themes, allowing you to easily control your website without ever touching a line of code.
The ePanel includes additional settings to allow you toggle on and off theme features, adjust your layout, manage advertisements, control colors, optimize for search engines and much more!
Key features of ePanel
The ePanel theme options integrates with the WordPress Dashboard and will appear automatically when you activate any of Elegant Themes’ themes, a notice will show in the dashboard asking you to configure ePanel (notice will be gone when you save settings for the first time).
1. General settings:
Adjust general settings such as post counts and colors schemes, upload custom logo images, control featured posts and much more.
Upload a Logo/ Favicon : ePanel makes this so easy to do. Just go to General Settings, enter a URL for your logo or upload a new file.
The easiest way to change the default logo that comes with the theme is to define a new logo image from within ePanel:
- Log in to the WordPress dashboard.
- Click on the Appearances > Theme Options link.
Once the page loads you will see a “logo” box with an empty field. Simply input the URL to your logo within this field and your website will update accordingly.
If your logo has not been uploaded to your server yet, then you can use the “upload image” button next to the field to launch the WordPress Media Uploader. This can be used to upload your new logo image from your computer to your website.
2. Navigation Settings:
The navigation panel allows you to easily add and remove links, adjust dropdown menu settings and change the order of your links.
The navigation tab gives you control over your navigation bars. The biggest upgrade you will notice is that a list of all your pages and categories is displayed that you can use to add/remove links from your navigation bars. This is much easier than having to search for the page/category ID number. The categories navigation option can be found as under:
Another notable addition is the ability to disable the top tier navigation links. If you want to create a parent category for the sole purpose of housing child categories, but don’t actually want to use the parent category, then you can simply disable the link.
3. Layout Settings:
The layout tab allows you to adjust the structure of your site, such as removing or changing certain design elements.
The layout section contains general layout options for individual sections of the theme.
They are usually broken into three categories: Single Post, Single Page and General settings.
- Single Post Layout : From this option, you may choose which items to display in the post info section, which includes the author, date, categories and comments. Moreover you can also enable/disable the thumbs or the comments on the post.
- Single page Layout : You can enable/disable the thumbs and the comments on the page. Moreover, you can show thumbs on the index pages under the general settings of the Layout tab option.
4. Ad Management Settings:
The themes come with various predefined ad locations. The Ad Management panel allows you to enable and manage these banners.
This section allows you to manage these ads. Here you can input the destination URL and the banner URL for each ad, as well as toggle them on and off at any time. Most Elegant Themes’ themes come with a 468×60 and 728×90 slot, however this may vary depending on the theme structure.
5. Colorization Settings:
One of the great new features of ePanel is the colorization section.
The colorizations panel allows you to quickly adjust the colors of various parts of your theme, such as font and background colors.
6. SEO Control:
ePanel theme options comes with some great functions for customizing your SEO. To locate the SEO options, log in to the WordPress Dashboard and click on the Appearances > Theme Options link. Then navigate to the “SEO” tab.
SEO tab has got three additional tabs:
- Homepage: it allows you to customize the meta tags for your homepage.
- Single Posts/Pages: it allows you to custom the meta tags for all posts and pages individually,
- Index Pages: it allows you to customize the meta tags for your category, archives, search and tag pages.
So overall, SEO tab helps to manage your titles, keywords and description meta tags, as well as canonical URLs for your homepage, posts, pages and categories.
7. Integration Settings:
The integration tab allows you to input code into various areas in the theme. This is useful for adding, for example, social media or analytics snippets. The integration section has made it easier for people to implement third party scripts into the theme.
8. Support Docs:
Tech Support and Documentation are just a click away from the support tab in the ePanel theme options page. It is the last section in the ePanel, where the users can get easy notes and quick hands on the installation instructions and troubleshoot guides that relate to each theme.
Elegant Themes have done great work on their ePanel theme options page. Having same theme options across the elegant Themes makes it easier for members to use new themes as they area already used to it, this also applies to switching from an Elegant Theme to another.
