You can add a tag to each event, and customers can filter by the tag in the frontend. 

If you use Amelia for both appointments and events, if you have an employee who works on the event, the timeslots in that period will be automatically removed from appointment booking. So no way to overbook.

Events can be shown in a nice-looking frontend calendar, and if you will you can keep them there even if they are closed for bookings or if they have passed, it up to you.
